Empowering Meru County Health Workers: Training on the New 3-Test HIV Algorithm

The training targeted HTS providers from different facilities supported by Philia Mission Kenya under Timiza 95 Project. The trained personnel included various cadres from these health facilities: MCH nurses, lab technicians, HTS providers, and clinicians. A total of 38 healthcare workers were trained.

This training is expected to have a significant impact on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV in Meru County. By equipping healthcare workers with the latest knowledge and skills related to the new 3-test HIV testing algorithm, we are enhancing their ability to identify and manage HIV-positive pregnant women effectively. This proactive approach will not only improve the health outcomes for mothers but also ensure that their newborns are protected from HIV, ultimately contributing to a reduction in transmission rates within the community.

The training was graced by esteemed guests, including the Chief Officer of Health-Dr. Wahome, the County Director of Health-Dr.Koome, the PMTCT Coordinator-Florence Nkaabu,Casco and Training Coordinator-Mr.Joseph Murungi and Mr. Joseph Otieno-Executive Director of Philia Mission Kenya. Their presence underscored the importance of this initiative and the collective commitment to improving maternal and child health in the region.

At the conclusion of the training, participants were issued certificates, recognizing their dedication to enhancing healthcare services and their role in the fight against HIV transmission in Meru County. This certification not only acknowledges their efforts but also empowers them to implement the knowledge gained in their respective facilities, fostering a healthier future for mothers and children in the community.
