The celebration of International Women’s Day, coordinated by the Department of Gender, Youth, Sports, and Social Services, was a significant event aimed at honoring the achievements of women, promoting gender equality, and highlighting the collective strength of the community.
The event began with a flag-off ceremony that set the tone for a day of meaningful engagement and reflection on women’s rights and empowerment.
As part of the day’s activities, a tree planting exercise took place, symbolizing growth, sustainability, and a collective commitment to a brighter future. In addition to this, screening for various health conditions, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) onboarding, and counseling sessions for GBV survivors were conducted, ensuring that participants received essential support and guidance.
Philia Mission Kenya made invaluable contributions to the event by offering HIV Testing Services (HTS), health education on Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT), and GBV sensitization. The organization also provided counseling sessions for GBV survivors, ensuring that individuals in need of support received immediate and professional assistance. These services played a critical role in the success of the event and reinforced the commitment to improving health and well-being within the community.

The community also came together to showcase various local initiatives through exhibitions, underscoring the importance of collective action in driving positive change. Sensitization sessions on financial management, empowerment programs, fire safety, health and wellness, GBV awareness, the judicial system, and available educational opportunities through TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) courses equipped participants with valuable knowledge and tools to navigate both personal and professional challenges.
